Melon flavor
It just so happens that one of the things I was looking forward to being able to readily find here in Japan was melon flavored soda. I fell in love with the stuff several years ago when the local Suncoast received 10 cans of Sangaria melon soda. I bought 8 of them, and they never got any more. However, just like some other preconceptions about Japan, the availability of melon soda was not what I expected. At least not in Hirakata.
There's only two places in Hirakata (aside from a few restaurant/cafeteria soda fountains) where I've been able to find melon soda so far. One, a vending machine on campus that dispenses Fanta melon soda in cups. And two, the 7-11 across the street from the campus, where the above-pictured aluminum bottle of Fanta was purchased. There's another vending machine near the international student dorms (called "Semester Houses"), across from a park, that has melon cream soda, but it's not quite the same and I don't really like it.
This 7-11 also has something else melon flavored that's really nice and suprisingly cheap. Melon-flavored ice cream bars. These are delicious and kinda like an orange creamsicle back home, but melon instead of orange. They're really good and only 60 yen each! Mmmm… 😄
Have you ever had melon flavored soda/ice cream/etc. before?
